Experimenting with warping, stretching, transposing and distortion of a handful of samples, the resultant drone was interspersed with snatches of echoing piano. Our gut feeling at this stage was that this was a twisted lullaby of some sort. Images of refugee children in the snow filled social media, and an idea started to take shape: wherever people are from, they will sing a lullaby to comfort their children. Layers of hypnotic percussion were added, a melody written, and lyrics added; like fairy tales, they seem to speak of the harsh realities, simple comforts, hopes and fears of the anonymous poor.

Colder than the long dead insomniac moon,
Fish are sleeping in the ice.
Silent as the distant stars, frozen in the sky,
Starving hollow little birds tuck their heads away.
And yesterday’s embers are ashes now.

Wolves are passing near the house,
Footsteps fading into white.
Don’t be afraid.
The bombs are falling somewhere else,
And soft descends the gentle snow,
